It's a rivalry that's arguably more intense inside the courtroom than in stores.

The legal fight between Apple and Samsung is coming to a close in the U.S., as a jury will soon decide which of the tech giants has a better case.

Apple says Samsung ripped off the iPhone and iPad. Samsung says Apple wouldn't have been able to make those products without infringing on Samsung's wireless patents.

All iPhone owners, rejoice: No longer do you have to put up with Apple's widely criticized Maps app. Google Maps is back, and it's much better than before.

And the irony is, we have Apple to thank for it.

It's hard to imagine that the second-best quarterly profit ever made by a U.S. company wasn't good enough for investors.

But Apple isn't an ordinary company. And signs that the tech giant's unbelievable growth might be slowing is enough for investors to flee the stock.

If you're Apple, there's good news, and there's bad news.

iPhone 5: The wait is over

First, the good news: You sold a bunch of iPhone 5s, and people lined up or ordered online.

Apple announced Tuesday that it has scheduled an event for Sept. 12, at which it is widely expected to introduce a new iPhone.

The highly anticipated event will likely feature the long-awaited unveiling of the iPhone 5. The invitation sent to the press features a prominent "5" as the shadow cast by the "12," signifying the event's date.

The new iPhone is expected to have an elongated screen, 4G network speeds, a faster processor and some other structural and internal changes.

Apple and Samsung have been involved in a long battle over the design of Samsung devices that Apple says were "ripped off" from iPads and iPhones. Samsung also countersued Apple for infringing on some of its patents. After a federal jury in California recommended Friday that Apple be awarded more than $1 billion in damages, readers are talking about patents and the ways people define product designs.

The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday brought a lawsuit against Apple and several publishing companies over an alleged scheme to fix e-book prices, a source with knowledge of the investigation told CNNMoney.

The suit likely stems from the 2010 release of the iPad, when Apple reached an agreement with five publishers to release books on its then-new iBookstore.

A similar investigation led by the European Commission is probing whether Apple colluded to raise the price of e-books with CBS's Simon & Schuster, News Corp.'s HarperCollins; Hachette Book Group; Pearson's Penguin unit and Macmillan.

Siri can help you find drugstores and bars, but the iPhone 4S digital assistant is clueless when it comes to the locations of abortion clinics, according to the American Civil Liberties Union.

The advocacy group this week launched an online petition asking people to send e-mails to Apple saying that "if Siri can tell us about Viagra, it should not provide bad or no information about contraceptives or abortion care.

Samsung Electronics filed preliminary injunction motions in Japan and Australia on Monday to block the sale of Apple's iPhone 4S there.

The South Korean company is accusing Apple of patent infringements dealing with wireless telecommunications technology.

In the Japan filing, Samsung also wants the court to bar the sale of iPhone 4 and iPad 2.

Apple could not immediately be reached for comment.
